My name is Nikolaos Thessalos and I am from Greece.
Since I was a kid I loved drawing. I remember myself in kindergarten, drawing dinosaurs and dragons, and the other kids asking me to make some for them. As an adult I quit drawing for a "pay the bills" job. In my mid-twenties I decided to give a second chance to my drawing skills, so I joined an art-school in Athens. Three years later I managed to graduate and I was happy for having finally a Bachelor of arts in “Sketch, Comics, Cartoon”.
Living in a city like Athens may have a great impact. While walking in the city- centre you walk by ancient and medieval monuments thousands of years old. Especially, the medieval monuments affected me deeply, making me realize that I love Byzantine art.
So after being influenced by all these artistic elements, I finally found the art-style that suits me best. It is a combination of my personal "line", influenced by comics, and the traditional Byzantine iconic art.
The mediums that I mostly prefer using for the creation of my artworks are inkpens and rapidographs on special thick papers (300gr). I use the techniques of crosshatching and stippling. Through these techniques I manage to create and render forms and shadows, despite the stiffness and the absoluteness of the material of ink.
It is very important for me to work on something I love, so I can put all of my "heart'', energy and creativity, reiterating fully my skills in order to produce the best-quality artworks I can.
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great one!
